CEDARBURG – Steven Frank Plater, age 64, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at Elkhart Lake’s Road America, after suffering a massive heart attack. He had just finished his last practice race of the day in his Shelby Mustang, doing what he loved best. Steve was born June 10, 1942, to Dr. Wade and Aleen (nee Anderson) Plater in Madison. He graduated from Wisconsin High School and went on to attend UW-Madison, graduating with a degree in geology.

He spent his life doing all things he loved while maintaining his dry cleaning businesses and later property holdings. Steve was involved in Sports Car Vintage Racing Association, Ducks Unlimited, Cedarburg Landmark Preservation Society, Madison Sports Car Club, Phi Delta Theta and Cedarburg Grafton Rotary Club. He chaired the Governor’s Council for the Drycleaner Environmental Response Program under three governors. Steve loved life and living it to the fullest. He was an avid fishermen, hunter, racer and skier.

Steve is survived by his wife of 40 years and grade school sweetheart, Sue (nee Baskerville); children, Kelly (Scott) Dale and Chad (Janine); and his brothers, Rick and Doug. He is also survived by the latest loves of his life, grandchildren, Lucy and Margo Dale and Tyge and Cale Plater.

Steve will forever be remembered by his family and countless friends with love. His passion for life and adventure will remain in each of us. We will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at 5 p.m. at ADVENT LUTHERAN CHURCH, W63 N642 Washington Ave., Cedarburg. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cedarburg/ Grafton Rotary Scholarship Fund are appreciated.
