Martha (Volk) Reinke

MADISON – Martha “Marty” (Volk) Reinke, age 71, passed away on March 2, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis. She was born on May 14, 1942, in Madison, Wis., to Wayne N. Volk and Dorcas Rewey Volk.

Martha grew up in Shorewood Hills, Wis. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin High School in Madison in 1960. After high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received a B.A. in international relations. Awarded an NDEA fellowship, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Library School, where she received an M.A. She worked at Madison LaFollette High School as the high school librarian for 32 years.

Martha married Richard Reinke in 1972 in Madison, Wis. They were happily married for 42 years. Martha was a member of the Madison Herb Society, the Madison Knitter’s Guild, and Team Survivor Madison. She enjoyed gardening and reading, mostly mystery novels in which the protagonist was a woman detective with a keen eye and exceptional reasoning skills.

Martha is survived by her husband, Richard of Madison, Wis.; her daughter, Jennifer Dreyer (Tim) of Madison, Wis.; her mother, Dorcas Rewey Volk; her brother, Timothy W. Volk (Ulla); her sister, Nancy D. Volk; and Andrew M. Volk (Alicia); nephews and nieces, Andreas Volk, Amy Melendez, Abby Neuberg, and their families. She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Volk.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI 53705, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 1 p.m., with Pastor Carly Kuntz officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately after the Memorial Service.
