Erwin C Wessels, 27, of 2610 Commercial Ave. He was a switchman for the North Western Railroad. He was killed when struck by a switching train in the railroad yards. He was born in Champaign, IL, and was a member of the Bethany Methodist church, and the United Transportation Workers Union. Erwin was a Wisconsin State Journal paper boy for three years and a Navy veteran. He left a wife, the former Barbara Severson; a son, James, and two daughters, Christina and Debra Lee, his parents, Mr and Mrs. Dean H Wessels, and three sisters, Mrs Stanley Peckham and Diane, both of River Falls; and Karen. Burial site is Forest Hill Cemetery.
At the reunion, Dave Cohen added that Erwin ran in cross country events, liked individual sports, and that he was active in school music.
